NORTH WEST PROVINCE

The North West Province has earned itself the nickname of ‘platinum province’ because of the rich supply of platinum in the ground. It’s also home to good slate, marble, and granite deposits. It’s the third smallest province in South Africa by population and home to approximately 3.8 million people. The capital city is Mahikeng. The province is also home to some of the largest cattle herds in the world, hence sometimes referred to the South Africa’s Texas. North West is an inland South African province that borders the country of Botswana. Its landscape is defined by mountains in the northeast and bushveld scattered with trees and shrubs. This is where you will find Sun City, an upscale resort with hotels, a casino, and a water park with a massive wave pool. Nearby is Pilanesberg National Park, with an extinct volcano and more than 7,000 animals, including lions and elephants.
