We spent six nights around the Livingstone and Victoria Falls areas last year when we visited Zambia for the first time because we were unfamiliar with the areas and also wanted to be near most of the activities and tourist attractions.
When we returned this year, we chose more tranquil locations just outside of the bustling Livingstone town and Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls (Victoria Falls). We had become familiar with the area, culture, country, and its people, and had even made some friends with the local shuttle services guys, so we felt comfortable travelling anywhere around Livingstone without fear of becoming lost or stranded.
We had spent a few days in Zambabwe before crossing over to Zambia. Our first accommodation in Livingstone, Zambia, was at the stunning, recently renovated Zambezi Dusk, formerly Camp Nkwazi. Following its launch in 2013, Camp Nkwazi has garnered recognition from TripAdvisor, receiving the “Certificate of Excellence” for five consecutive years (2015–2019) and the esteemed “Hall of Fame” accolade in 2020. Furthermore, from 2016 to 2020, it was acknowledged as the recipient of Booking.com’s Guest Review Award. Thus, Zambezi Dusk has all the makings of one of Livingstone’s greatest and most sought-after tented accommodations, picking off right where Camp Nkwazi left off.
Perfectly located on the banks of the magnificent Zambezi River, Zambezi Dusk is a nature retreat tucked away in the heart of the African wilderness, about 27 km from Livingstone town, 30 km from Livingstone airport, 38 km from the world-famous Mosi-oa-Tunya Falls (Victoria Falls), and 65 km from Botswana’s Chobe National Park. Zambezi Dusk is the perfect getaway location for anyone looking for an opulent yet immersive experience with nature. Sitting on the main lodge’s deck, which comprises the on-site bar, restaurant, and swimming pool, you will be treated to unparalleled river views and its rich wildlife. Across the river, expect to see a diverse range of wildlife such as hippos, elephants, warthogs, monkeys, baboons, antelopes, and a rich array of rare bird species, including the Fish Eagle, African Paradise Flycatcher, African Finfoot, Kingfishers, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Hornbill, and Bee-eaters, just to name a few.
THE LODGE – ZAMBEZI DUSK
The main lodge at Zambezi Dusk comprises 10 tented self-catering and en-suite chalets ecapsulated by lush trees. Four are facing the natural waterway, while the other six overlook the mighty Zambezi River giving you a glimpse of the vast array of African wildlife from your private deck. Each tented chalet is elegantly furnished, fully equipped for your convenience, and has an outside bar fridge and tea/coffee station, ensuring a seamless blend of comfort and relaxation in nature. For those who would rather camp, there is a campsite tucked away on the opposite side of the dam, far away from the chalets, nestled in the forest, and beautifully landscaped lawns for an unforgettable camping experience.
Each unit can accommodate two adults and all beds can be arranged into two single/quarter beds or one King-size bed if travelling as a couple. Power points (220 volts) are available in each unit for hairdryers, shavers, and for charging laptops and cellphones. By prior arrangement, two children under the age of twelve years may be accommodated.
